The Five Essential Truths of the Application Economy

What you need to know about this business revolution and what your business should be doing right now to adapt

The Five Essential Truths of the Application Economy

The Application Economy is here and there’s no turning back. Applications have become the primary face of business, and they’re easier to use than ever before. Your customers are far more likely to experience your brand and interact with your enterprise through a software app than a live person. To thrive in this new reality, developing and delivering superior user experiences that engage your customers and staff is now the ultimate priority. And all of it is enabled by software.

What do you have to know about this business revolution and what specific actions should your business be taking to adapt?

We’ve done the heavy lifting and summarized the findings in this SlideShare deck

The SlideShare outlines five things all businesses should know about the Application Economy and the best practices needed to leverage the enormous opportunities brought on by this connected, mobile, application-based world. In some industries, the number of software jobs has doubled over the past ten years. That’s because today every business is in the software business, and smart businesses are using applications to engage customers and gain a competitive advantage.

What makes a winner in the Application Economy? Companies that realize IT infrastructure investment is a business decision—not just an IT decision. But just having applications is not enough. As the consumerization of IT drives customers to expect better options, you must pay attention to application quality and user experience.

To build and deploy reliable software faster, you need DevOps—where the creation, testing, and deployment of software is a single, integrated process. DevOps means your Dev and Ops teams can work more collaboratively to deliver the highest quality apps, with the best customer experience, in the fastest time possible, to maximize the value IT delivers.

In the Application Economy, security is about more than just protection – it needs to enable the business to pursue the new opportunities generated by the application economy. Using digital identities from third parties (BYOID) also strengthens security while creating a better customer experience.

And finally, don’t forget the ongoing role of the mainframe.  Many of today’s modern mainframe apps are accessible both from mobile devices and via the cloud, so the mainframe remains a key element of most enterprises’ strategies for addressing the application economy.
